Artist's Comments

Once the department chair came up to me, excitedly, and began fiddling through his sketchbook. "Girl, there is something I want you to see!"
And when he finally found it he tilted it towards me, grinning, and asked, "What do YOU see?"
The drawing looked like a mess of lines and shapes...branches of a tree? And then I saw it. "It's a FACE!"
He had looked up at a tree and seen an abstract face outlined in the branches, drawing it excitedly like many of us do. I was flattered that he wanted me to see it as well. He wanted to see if I would see it. The creativity bug.

This is my illustration of his moment. If you look carefully enough, you can see the face here.

Unfortunately I simply can't see past the tree branches to see the face, but this is still a wonderful image in my estimation. It really captures a sort of wonder, with that particular angle and all the vibrant colors.

ok. i'm seeing things that look like eyes maybe. but, i can't make out the rest!!!
and it's making me mad!!!!!!!!!
heh.
this is traditional isn't it?
i love the loose style of it.
nice perspective as well.
and i like the fact that the subject matter is based on something real and helps to illustrate a story.
actually, this one and the one i saw of the kids watching tv(?), would make pretty cool
illustrations in a book of some sort.
nice going!

Confession. Actually, an eye and nose are the only real facial features that are able to be seen.
Thank you for your praise.

this is a great piece
the foreshortening is a wonderful idea
and works so well with the loose sketchy
style to give the viewer a sense of the
amazement felt by the character....
*thumbs up*
